It’s the end of March! The Madness is in full swing and Spring Break is over!

I’ve added several training opportunities to the ScoutTrack Calendar, check them out.

Parents, it is highly recommended that you attend a training or two as your scout progresses through the ranks. Each rank is different and unique, they shift and morph as the scouts grow.

If you can’t make one of the trainings just posted, there will be more, don’t wait for the last minute, take it early, let it sink in, then take it again!

Coming up on March 31st is Scout Night with the Austin Toros at the Cedar Park center. This event will be unique as there will be a TAILGATING session for our District! Check the calendar in ScoutTrack for more information.

Summer is coming fast, Summer Day Camps are filling up everywhere, a number are already booked, check the Council website for more information. Our best choices are bolded below

DAY CAMPS CLICK HERE to choose one of the following camps and register
June 4-8, 2012 SW Wilco Park Day Camp
June 5-7, 2012 LBJ State Park Day Camp
June 5-8, 2012 Old Settler’s Park Day Camp
June 11-15, 2012 Blanco Vista Elem-San Marcos
June 18-20, 2012 Live Oak Day Camp Gonzales Texas
July 9-13, 2012 Day Camp at Camp Tom Wooten

Pack 165 {ROCKS!} recommends Session 1 for Cub Scout Resident Camp, If you haven’t been to one, your scout(s) will have the time of their lives and never want to leave. Parents willing to volunteer helping may be able to have their children (scouts and siblings) attend for free. Let me know if you are interested.
CUB SCOUT SUMMER CAMPS

Last night was our October Pack meeting, there was a ton of energy, you could almost see the sparks flying off the scouts heads!

Bulletins:

-Pack trip Houston Zoo sign-up
- night was the last chance to sign up
-Membership renewal
-We have less time that last year, please get with Robin to renew.
-Lad-N-Dad bake-off next month
-Troy Tiritilli is looking for an energized parent or two to help with logistics. Please let me or him know if you can spare a little time to help out
-Popcorn Take Order still going on
-One week left, everyone needs to get with Sarah to turn in the order forms and money
-Training
-Leadership notes – We need all of our leaders to finish their training. Your training shows your commitment to your scouts, the parents and helps the Pack on our Journey to Excellence. In order to meet the MINIMUM level, we have to have 100% of our leaders finish basic training: YPT, This is Scouting and Leader Specific Training.
-Tiger Adventure Day
-Tiger Adventure Day at Camp Tom Wooten is coming up. Registration and more details are available at our councils website http://www.bsacac.org/event/tcadfall2011

Mike Sheppard presented the Duty God program, we had especially high interest this year! This a very good program that really helps the scouts gain a better understanding of their relationship to their faith. Let Mike or I know if you want more information.

We inducted 21 scouts into the Bobcat rank, the Spirit of Scouting shone on all the scouts, proving their worth and their own spirit!

By request I improved on my botched song from the fall campout. I brought the words for Kumbaya and was surprised to find that almost all of the scouts jumped up on stage to help me with the song. I guess you could say it was the introduction of the Pack 165 impromptu a cappella choir. The scouts did great, putting on a great performance for the parents!

While out of cycle, we did conclude with awarding the Texas Badge to all the scouts that came to the fall campout at Camp Bovay. We had an excellent time out there.

And as of today, the Pack 165 {ROCKS!} website is now official and active. There will be a brief period over the next the few weeks while we finish building it out, tweaking things here and there.

What a great weekend of camping!

It was a bit of a drive, but so worth it. Saturday morning Texas centered activities followed by an afternoon at the Birth Place of Texas (http://www.birthplaceoftexas.com/) learning about the 175+ years of Texas history. The WEBELOS managed to pick 4.5 pounds of cotton, while the bear (with less cotton to pick and fewer scouts), picked 3.5 pounds in less time… those Bears put their heart into it and ran out of cotton. The poor little Tigers and Wolves had nothing left to pick!

Saturday night the boys learned how to take the raw cotton and pull it into threads. We ended the night with a campfire (using battery powered lanterns) and a Texas Flag retirement (buried not burned, official but not preffered).

While we didn’t have as many as we would have liked, we had a good time.

To all who weren’t able to make it, we missed you and hope all is well!
