November’s Pack Meeting

Many thanks to our Assistant Cubmaster, Mike Sheppard for leading the meeting, to Troy Tiritilli for organizing the Cake Bake and judging, and to the pack as a whole.   I have been truly touched by the card you signed.  It is little things like the card that drive me to keep striving to live up to the role that our Pack deserves.

October Pack Meeting

Last night was our October Pack meeting, there was a ton of energy, you could almost see the sparks flying off the scouts heads!

Bulletins:

-Pack trip Houston Zoo sign-up
     - night was the last chance to sign up
-Membership renewal
-We have less time that last year, please get with Robin to renew.
-Lad-N-Dad bake-off next month
-Troy Tiritilli is looking for an energized parent or two to help with logistics. Please let me or him know if you can spare a little time to help out
-Popcorn Take Order still going on
-One week left, everyone needs to get with Sarah to turn in the order forms and money
-Training
-Leadership notes – We need all of our leaders to finish their training. Your training shows your commitment to your scouts, the parents and helps the Pack on our Journey to Excellence. In order to meet the MINIMUM level, we have to have 100% of our leaders finish basic training: YPT, This is Scouting and Leader Specific Training.
-Tiger Adventure Day
-Tiger Adventure Day at Camp Tom Wooten is coming up. Registration and more details are available at our councils website http://www.bsacac.org/event/tcadfall2011

Mike Sheppard presented the Duty God program, we had especially high interest this year!  This a very good program that really helps the scouts gain a better understanding of their relationship to their faith.  Let Mike or I know if you want more information.

We inducted 21 scouts into the Bobcat rank, the Spirit of Scouting shone on all the scouts, proving their worth and their own spirit!

By request I improved on my botched song from the fall campout.  I brought the words for Kumbaya and was surprised to find that almost all of the scouts jumped up on stage to help me with the song.  I guess you could say it was the introduction of the Pack 165 impromptu a cappella choir.  The scouts did great, putting on a great performance for the parents!

While out of cycle, we did conclude with awarding the Texas Badge to all the scouts that came to the fall campout at Camp Bovay.  We had an excellent time out there.

And as of today, the Pack 165 {ROCKS!} website is now official and active.  There will be a brief period over the next the few weeks while we finish building it out, tweaking things here and there.

Home Again

What a great weekend of camping!

It was a bit of a drive, but so worth it.  Saturday morning Texas centered activities followed by an afternoon at the Birth Place of Texas (http://www.birthplaceoftexas.com/) learning about the 175+ years of Texas history.  The WEBELOS managed to pick 4.5 pounds of cotton, while the bear (with less cotton to pick and fewer scouts), picked 3.5 pounds in less time… those Bears put their heart into it and ran out of cotton.  The poor little Tigers and Wolves had nothing left to pick!

Saturday night the boys learned how to take the raw cotton and pull it into threads.   We ended the night with a campfire (using battery powered lanterns) and a Texas Flag retirement (buried not burned, official but not preffered).

While we didn’t have as many as we would have liked, we had a good time.

To all who weren’t able to make it, we missed you and hope all is well!

BECAUSE OF MY SON

BECAUSE OF MY SON
Because of my son – I found a job to do,
I became a Scouter, tried and true.
I understand boys better because of my son.
It happened through Scouting – Gee, what fun.
Because of my son – I can be worthwhile.
Oh what a reward, to see a boy’s smile!
Tis endless, the pleasures gained from Scouting.
Because of my son – I’ve gained friends beyond measure.
Tis indeed blessed to hold such a wonderful treasure!
Hours that were idle, are now filled to the brim,
Because of my son – I enjoy life with him!
Because of my son – I’ve a new way of life.
I recommend Scouting for each husband and wife!
Don’t spend your spare time, doing nothing at all.
Because of your son – heed the Scouting call!

  • POPCORN! Take Order starts on 9/17
    • DO NOT START BEFORE SATURDAY!!!! Council rules.
    • Don’t forget online sales.
    • The Pack has sold over $13,000 in product so far!
    • PETER MARA is in the lead with over $1,400 in sales!
  • LOTS AND LOTS of belt loops given out for summer activities!
  • We sang Happy Birthday to all the birthdays from Summer (June – August)
